Program Director - Terry Phelan

PLAYING CAREER

Terry Phelan (born 16 March 1967 in Manchester) came through Leeds United’s youth system and rose to prominence with AFC Wimbledon, winning the 1988 FA Cup as part of the “Crazy Gang.” A dynamic left-back, he went on to play in the Premier League for Manchester City, Chelsea, and Everton, as well as several other English clubs. Later in his career, he played in the USA and New Zealand, transitioning into player-coach roles. Internationally, he earned 42 caps for the Republic of Ireland, scored once, and featured in the 1994 FIFA World Cup.

COACHING & TECHNICAL DEVELOPMENT

After retiring, Phelan shifted into coaching and youth development, taking on leadership roles internationally. In 2015 he joined Kerala Blasters FC as Technical Director for grassroots and briefly served as interim head coach. He later became Technical Director at South United FC in Bangalore, focusing on academy and youth training. He continues to contribute through coaching initiatives, mentoring, and punditry, driven by his vision “to build a footballing culture rooted in excellence, discipline, and opportunity.”
